INSIDE SOAP.NET- FEBRUARY.06 Roger Crow talks to former Crossroads, Family Affairs and Holby City star Luke Roberts, who was born in 1977 in Suffolk and studied drama at the London Academy of Music and Drama. He was snapped up for Steven Spielberg's epic mini-series Band of Brothers, and went on to star in Crossroads and Family Affairs. He lives in north London and plays cardiothoracic registrar Joseph Byrne in Holby City, which can be seen Tuesday nights on BBC One. WHAT'S YOUR DREAM SATURDAY NIGHT? "I've never done The Ivy so I guess that would be good. Or maybe something by the ocean, staying in a hotel with a nice balcony. I like winter sports such as skiing so that would also be an ideal Saturday night." WHAT DO YOU DO TO GET READY FOR IT? "I like to dress casual but smart, so maybe I'll wear a jacket and jeans." IF YOU COULD MAKE ONE LAW FOR SATURDAY NIGHTS WHAT WOULD IT BE? "No X Factor because I get hooked on it. It's frighteningly compulsive viewing. I don't want to see people go through the audition process because I know how gruelling and difficult it is." WHAT'S THE BEST SATURDAY NIGHT OUT YOU'VE EVER HAD? AND THE WORST? "The best was when I met my girlfriend, Athena for the first time. It was in a club in London. The worst is anything which involves being in Soho after the trains have stopped and trying to get to a cash point to get a taxi. I used to work in bars in Soho and getting the night bus home was horrible." WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO SPEND YOUR WEEKEND WITH? "My girlfriend, but the singer Jamelia would be a close second." DO YOU LIVE FOR THE WEEKEND AND FREE TIME? "Absolutely not. I really enjoy working and at the moment I'm actually working weekends. It's quite rigorous but I think it is important to find time to cut off from work and do something other than thinking about lines." WHAT SORT OF A SUNDAY PERSON ARE YOU? "I like to sleep, relax and watch a movie." HOW DO YOU HANDLE HANGOVERS? "I'm trying to get into a regime of fruit juices at the moment. There's a recipe I've seen involving lots of vegetables so I'll give that a try. Otherwise, loads of water, aspirin, keep my head low and don't talk to anyone because I can be grumpy." WHICH CITY IS THE BEST FOR NIGHTLIFE AND WHY? "I like London. I think it's got a lot going for it. You just have to make sure you've got transport home at the end of the night." WHAT DID YOU GET UP TO LAST WEEKEND AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS WEEKEND? "Saturday I was learning my lines and managed to squeeze in a gym session. I also did some reading. Sunday I was filming. This weekend I may travel back to Suffolk to see my parents. Every third or fourth weekend I tend to do that. Sunday, maybe I'll stretch to a roast. There'll also be some lines to learn and I like to get ahead with that."
