Former Crossroads star Luke Roberts has joined Holby City as cardio thoracic registrar Joseph Byrne.
The actor's other credits include Band of Brothers, Mile High, and Five's recently axed Family Affairs, but he still has fond memories of the Midlands hotel. He explains: "I was in Crossroads for six months and I loved doing it. I was in the final incarnation with Jane Asher. I played her wayward playboy son - for me it was a lot of gambling and Jacuzzis.
"It was so exciting to do, because it was my first long-runner. I had a great character and I got to work with some really nice people."
However, Luke admits the role of Ryan Samson did have its drawbacks. "Those Jacuzzis were freezing cold and the scenes tended to be first thing on a Monday morning and you're covered in body make-up, so it was particularly slimy in there," he recalls.
Sadly, his stint on the soap came to an abrupt end when the show was cancelled. He says now: "It was a baptism of fire."
